A Business-Government Dialogue on U.S. Trade Expansion Objectives
will take place Tuesday, February 5, 2002 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the U.S. Department of Commerce, sponsored by the Commerce Department's Office of Service Industries and the U.S. Coalition of Service Industries. This conference will explore the opportunities for increased market access offered by the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) negotiations of the World Trade Organization (WTO) since the launch of the new work program at the Doha Ministerial Conference in November 2001. The conference will give U.S. service industries the opportunity to help shape the U.S. negotiating agenda through industry-specific roundtables.
SERVICES 2002 will feature a keynote address by Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi,
WTO Director- General designate of the WTO, and former Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of Commerce of Thailand. Joining Dr. Supachai will be senior
officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Office of the U.S.
Trade Representative, and other U.S. Government agencies responsible for
developing U.S. services trade policy. Among the speakers and panelists
will be top executives from global U.S. services firms and major trade
associations. Interaction between speakers and conference attendees will
be provided in breakout roundtable sessions.
