Tourism Industries is proud to announce the availability of the "Canadian Travel to the U.S., 1996" annual report.

1996 marked the first significant increase in the number of Canadian person visits to the United States since 1991, the historical peak year for arrivals from Canada to the U.S. Following four years of declining arrivals, 1996 reversed a troubling trend with an increase of 4 percent to bring arrivals of one or more nights to 15,301,000. Canadians constitute one-third of our international arrivals and provide nearly US$6 billion in tourism-related expenditures within the U.S.

This comprehensive analysis of our number one tourism-generating market is offered free of charge. Unique among Tourism Industries' publications, the Canadian travel report looks at state visitation to illustrate changes in Canadian traveler characteristics over the past year, as well as changes occurring at the national level over several years. This free report has been provided since 1980 and photocopies of back issues are available. To get further details visit our web site: http://tinet.ita.doc.gov

New elements reported in 1996 are age and gender of the Canadian traveler of one or more nights* duration to the U.S. The 1996 report includes topical analyses such as:
