RELEASES PROTOTYPE OF KEY ORIGIN MARKET PROFILES

The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has released a prototype origin country outbound travel profile for the Canada, Mexico, U.K., Germany, Japan, and China markets for use, review, and feedback. The profiles provide a one-stop shop of data and trends for a country as an outbound travel market. The profiles include the following information:

  • Total outbound traveler
    • volume
    • annual percent change
    • top ten country destinations and trends
  • Total outbound traveler spending
    • volume
    • annual percent change
  • Traveler volume to USA
    • volume
    • annual percent change
    • USA share of total country outbound
    • monthly change past three years
    • monthly share of annual visitation
    • top ten states visited
    • "geo-equity" index
    • I-94 top ten states of "destination while in the U.S."
  • Traveler spending in USA
    • volume
    • annual percent change
    • USA share of total country outbound spending
  • Country economics and demographics trend and forecast
    • GDP
    • inflation
    • unemployment
    • government debt ratios
    • currency exchange rate
    • stock market performance
  • Summary of key share / ranking metrics
  • "Country Comments" from various sources
    • Economist The World in 2012 magazine
    • Economist Intelligence Unit
    • Business Monitor Online
    • Commerce Commercial Service officers in country
    • Other miscellaneous sources
  • Summary of country key positives and negatives influencing OTTI's travel forecast

These prototype profiles are being offered to the travel industry on a trial basis. OTTI welcomes your feedback on the following issues:

  • their usefulness to you and your organization;
  • suggestions for change or other items for inclusion;
  • a suggested pricing level if OTTI charged for future summary profiles;
  • other countries would you like to see posted.
