Secretary Gary Locke and Senator Amy Klobuchar to Announce
Increased Resources for the Market Development Cooperator Program

Executives of trade associations and other export multiplier organizations are invited to join Secretary Locke and select Members of Congress on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 to explore partnerships with the International Trade Administration (ITA) that can help U.S. industry double exports by 2015. Participants will learn about increased resources for the Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP), past MDCP projects that have helped associations assist their members to export, and ways to structure a successful MDCP project.

Financial assistance is set to increase six fold for Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) projects in 2011.

In lead up to the December 1st event, please join in a conference call on Thursday, November 4, at 1:30 p.m. (EST) to find out how your organization can benefit. Additional calls are planned for November 9 and 18 in case the 4th isn’t convenient for you. Visit trade.gov/mdcp for details on how to join the conference call(s).

Trade associations and other business groups can receive Market Development Cooperator Program awards up to $500,000 for projects that help U.S. firms to export.

Commerce Secretary Locke will note how MDCP awards to associations can help achieve the National Export Initiative goal to double exports by 2015. Senator Amy Klobuchar will comment on the importance of exporting and on plans to increase funding for MDCP awards. Past MDCP awardees will be present to describe their successes and lessons learned.

The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center (room to be determined) and run until 6:30 p.m. Following brief comments from Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and Senator Amy Klobuchar, a panel of executives from three trade associations will compare the successes achieved by their respective MDCP projects. During the last hour-plus light refreshments will be provided. Attendees can network and discuss project successes with program participants and ITA officials.

Complimentary refreshments will be served. There is no charge to participate in the event. However, registration by November 15 is requested.
