Forecast of International Arrivals to the U.S. Program

Program Description

  What is it?
A presentation/report providing a two-year forecast of international travel to and from the United States, with the emphasis on inbound arrivals to the U.S. More than 20 individual countries are forecast using an econometric model that includes unemployment, exchange rates, consumer confidence, disposable income, etc., in that particular country. Run twice each year, incorporating most recent arrivals/departures data.
  What information is presented?

Projections of international arrivals from:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Overseas Countries and World Regions
    1. Europe (United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, France, and Netherlands)
    2. South and Central America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela)
    3. Asia (Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, India)
    4. Oceania (Australia, New Zealand)
    5. Africa (South Africa)
    6. Caribbean

Projections of U.S. Citizen departures (outbound) to:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Overseas
  How is the information collected?
Data are compiled using the forecast model developed by the WEFA Group, based on Tourism Industries' baseline data from the In-Flight Survey, the Summary of International Travel to the U.S. and the International Air Travel Statistics

Forecasts for travel between the U.S. and Canada are provided by the Canadian Tourism Research Institute on behalf of Statistics Canada. Forecasts for travel between the U.S. and Mexico are derived from data provided by Banco de Mexico on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism for Mexico.
